On Monday, May 1, the Society of Cosmetic Chemists national office will provide attendees with the opportunity to supplement their experience at New York Suppliers Day with two separate CEP courses. The topics are cosmetics formulations and beginning cosmetic chemistry. Mark Chandler, president, ACT Solutions Corp., will instruct the Cosmetics Formulations course. This course is described as perfect for anyone interested in the mechanics of designing a cosmetic formulation. Chandler will provide a cosmetic raw materials overview on everything from emulsions, cleansers, sticks, gels, oils and preservation basics. The course will be beneficial to beginning and seasoned scientists, whether in formulation, quality control, or claims testing. Attendees will learn emulsion theory, how to enhance efficacy and consumer appeal formulation basics, cleanser examples and much more. Perry Romanowski of Brains Publishing will lead a “Beginning Cosmetic Chemistry” course that is designed specifically with beginning cosmetic chemists in mind. According to SCC, information presented will also be useful for QA chemists, seasoned veteran scientists who want to learn about other areas of formulations, scientists in related industries, college students studying chemistry and marketing or sales people who need a primer about the chemistry of their products. The class will provide an introduction to the industry and cover the basic physiology of skin and hair, formulation techniques and key raw materials.
